Susan Oliver looks at how British and North American authors in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries drew attention to a range of changing environmental conditions, then compares their writing with literatures of environmentalism today. Professor Oliver explores different kinds of writing, including poetry, fiction and journalism, to show how vocabularies and generic form shape the ways that we conduct our relationship with the non-human world.
